Fox on the Run: Mad Fox Brewing Company, Falls Church, VA

More good news for the beer lovers in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Construction on the Mad Fox Brewing Company of Falls Church, VA began at the end of last month, and they anticipate a Spring 2010 opening. It is going to be a brewpub modeled after a English Gastropub or European Brasserie, casual dining with an emphasis on high quality food that complements the Mad Fox beers.
A little bit of history about Mad Fox is in order. From their website:

Mad Fox Brewing Company, LLC’s (“Mad Fox”) mission is to brew and serve the best craftbrew in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC area. Through it’s brewpub operations, Mad Fox will meet the demand of a well-educated and thirsty clientele hungry for great craftbrew and a comfortable place to enjoy it. Mad Fox’s founders are Bill Madden and Rick Garvin.
Bill Madden’s fans have been demanding that he open his own brewpub since he first moved to Northern Virginia after completing the Master Brewers Program at UC Davis in 1995. Since then, Bill has been responsible for opening and operating 7 brewpub locations in Northern Virginia, District of Columbia and Maryland while at Capitol City Brewing Company, Founders Restaurant and Brewing Company and Vintage 50 Restaurant and Brew Lounge. At AC Beverage, Bill built and serviced beer systems at the highest volume brewpubs and restaurants in the Washington, DC region. He is sought after as the organizer of large successful beer festivals.

Bill Madden’s locally brewed and served beers have received national acclaim through his participation in the Brewers Associations’ Great American Beer Festival (GABF) and the Chicago Real Ale Festival. The GABF is the largest commercial beer competition with 495 breweries entering 3,308 beers in 78 categories in 2009. The Chicago Real Ale Festival is the pre-eminent competition in the USA featuring true British-style Real Ale. His achievements are especially notable as they span the lightest and subtlest beer styles as well as the biggest most robust and full-flavored beer styles, an unusual accomplishment that speaks to his finesse as a brewer. Bill’s medals include:

2004 – GABF Silver – Margaret’s Scotch Ale
2003 – Chicago Real Ale – Wee Heavy Ale
2002 – GABF Gold – Capitol Kolsch
2002 – GABF Bronze – Amber Waves Ale
